What started as a demo for a small group of mothers and fathers living in and around Helsinki has quickly grown in just few weeks to become the Finland’s largest service listing children’s and family events and happenings.
Operating on the Eventz International’s platform, Vekarat.Net is now the go to site for events for families and children covering everything from markets and craft fairs to sports clubs, story session and music.
As well as pulling together family friendly events from partner sites such as social media platforms and ticket companies, Vekarat.net content is partly crowd-sourced by its community. Companies and individuals can list their own events and children’s activities on to the platform and reach an active audience across Finland. All of this is offered free of charge and service sees more than 40% people on the site as returning users.
Mikko Lintunen, Eventz International’s CSO said:
“We are delighted how quickly Vekarat has taken off. Originally, we built the site to show a small group of mothers, fathers and their kids in the capital area how easy it is to use Eventz.today Portal Solutions as a platform of choice. Since then the site has just grown organically and many companies have now decided to come onboard and market their services and events for families and children on vekarat.net.”
As the Vekarat.net uses Eventz International’s proprietary license platform it automatically gets content from partners like cities of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Turku and Tampere, smaller cities like Hanko, Raasepori, Lohja, Vihti and Hyvinkää as well as from Helsinki Lutheran Church. Worldwide partnerships include Ticketmaster International, Piletlevi, Netticket, Eventbrite and Meet-up to name few.
Roope Suomalainen, Eventz International’s CEO said:
“We think this is a great example how Eventz.today Portal Solutions can be easily configured for specific customer segments and with such an ease and speed. Vekarat.net service after all was configured to run on Eventz.today Portal Solutions in 45 minutes. We believe our platform gives amazing value for companies in the media, travel, government and in non-governmental organizations.”
Vekarat.net is run by volunteers. Head of the service and coordinator of the volunteers is Ilona Vainio.
“I am first of all a mom. We just got our second child and they take most of my time. I got really excited to participate as our kids are in the target audience and I wanted to help other moms too. Running the service is super easy and it doesn’t take too much of my time. Still, I am able to offer the best children’s event guide in Finland. I am so happy – and so are my friends who have kids too”, explains Ilona. “Want your events to show on Vekarat.net? Just tag your events in Facebook with #vekarat and we’ll display them on our service free of charge,” Ilona continues.
